SFFS: Rude Interruptions (Another "Genesis" Snippet)

Welcome to another installment of Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday on the blog. Thanks for all the feedback you give on my snippets, but be sure to go visit all of the other writers through the SFFS link above as well.

I'm slowly bringing out snippets from "Genesis," a story that I'd written long ago. So, if you didn't catch the previous snippets, catch the story so far

The boys have just had money thrown in their laps, which put to rest most of their concerns about Gabriel (as it always tends to). Now, we're going to find out what happens next:
“So, all we have to do is take you wherever you want to go? There’s nothing more required of us?”

“Transport is all I require at this point. As I mentioned before, the full extent of my journey has not been revealed to me.” His explanation was strange, but another look at the coins littering the tabletop kept me too occupied to care.

“You have a deal, Mr. Peters.” I stuck out my hand to bond our agreement.

“Please, call me Gabriel.”

A furry paw smashed down on the center of the table, as a booming, beefy voice echoed above us. “Peters, as certain as I live and breathe, I knew it would only be a matter of time…”

Be sure to come back next week for yet another installment. Again, I always enjoy your comments!

  1. Sorry if I'm a bit slow on this, but Gabriel Peters? Does he also have a sledge hammer in that satchel? ;P (Kidding! I couldn't resist.)

Now, who's this bear of a man interrupting our arrangement? Can't wait for next week!

  2. Heh...didn't even cross my mind at the time. Had to google it to figure out the reference. :-)

The furry paw may have been a bit confusing, but those who remember several weeks ago (when I mentioned the others in the room) should have a bit of insight into who's interrupting. :-D

  3. A lap full of money does make for strange companions and I like the suspense left at the end (Yeah, I know Miller - it's called a cliffhanger). I was just trying to be unique. Great Snippet!

  4. Very nice snippet... great cliffhanger! (and I want to know if that's a metaphorical or actual furry paw...)

  5. Well, the owner of said paw is a fur-covered beast, but also has thumbs, so not sure if we want to consider it a "paw" or not... :-)

  6. What??!! You can't just leave it right there! Now I have to wait a whole week to see what happens next. Great snippet, again!! And yeh, I'm with Patrick...very 'Sledgehammer-ish.'

  7. Coins? What are they made of? Platinum? Somehow I don't think they'd get far on what our usual coins would buy.

  8. Of course, Gabriel and Peter(s) are two names associated to something else...which was what I was going for. ;-)

Sue Ann, last week's snippet mentioned that each coin was worth ten-thousand credits (and thus the satchel was likely worth millions). And as long as they get off this planet, the rest is all just bonus. :-)

  11. Uh oh! I wonder if the new person is friend or foe!

  12. Judging by the dialogue, I'd be willing to bet the new arrival won't be too friendly. ;-)

    There's always a catch, JC! :-D
