Since I've been running dry on the new writing front lately, I'm diving back into the archives for a snippet today from another of my Kasey Reynolds stories. This is a first draft of a story I'd written some time ago, and I will probably try to get it going again sometime soon. So, other than the usual warnings about it being a first draft, I'll simply leave you with this snippet:
“You son of a...” Kasey grabbed the wiry pipsqueak by both flaps of his cheap, thinning suit. In the blink of an eye, she spun around, tossing him against the wall.
He crumpled to the ground, allowing the blonde-haired vixen to yank the scattergun off her thigh and aim the barrel straight at his chest. “Now, give me the money you promised me!”
His brown eyes darted back and forth as he watched the end of his life racing upon him, stammering, “I don’t have it.”
Kasey clenched her teeth, air from her nostrils blowing her bangs aside in a rapid rhythm. “Then you shouldn’t have hired me for the task.”
“You’d kill a man over fifteen thousand credits?”
She narrowed her eyes, then flipped her weapon around and clubbed the side of his head. He fell to the ground, appearing unconscious, but Kasey still muttered, “If someone promised to pay me, I’d do it for far less.”
Hope you enjoyed it, and I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things with new material on my novels and short stories.
Moral of the story: pay your debts. Love this snippet!ReplyDelete
Thanks! I also like the old adage, "Don't write checks you can't cash." :-DReplyDelete
You can kill anyone for $10,000. I don't know the exchange rate, but I suspect 15,000 credits is comparable.ReplyDelete
But people tend to get a little miffed when you don't pay up. ;-)ReplyDelete
Oh, ouch!! That's gonna hurt. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. Let's hope Kasey gets her money in the end.ReplyDelete
Other than when she's trying to capture Aston, I think Kasey *always* gets her way. :-)ReplyDelete
I like Kasey - she's got principles!ReplyDelete
She could have blasted him. She's a big woman for just clubbing him. This snippet was fun to read from the start, great pace and rhythm.ReplyDelete
Ha ha. I tend to agree with her.ReplyDelete
Don't hire someone you can't pay. Especially if you're hiring them to do something you don't want done to you.ReplyDelete
I have decided that we need to have a "girl's night out" where all of our SFFSat female leads end up in the the same bar. I'm just not sure the universe will survive...ReplyDelete
JC, that she does!ReplyDelete
Jalisa, if she'd killed him immediately, there'd be absolutely NO chance of getting her money out of him. ;-)
Angelia, me too!
Sue Ann, definitely!
Cassandra, that sounds like a novel idea (or at least a short story idea ;-D ).
I LIKE HER! My kinda gal!ReplyDelete
fantastic snippet, Mr Hunter!
Ooh, a hard-boiled female indeed!ReplyDelete
This was amusing and showed her amazing toughness.ReplyDelete
Thanks, you guys! I like writing about Kasey...not sure why, but she's my kind of woman. ;-)ReplyDelete
I could have used Kasey for some 'collection' services back when I was still running my graphics company (silly dead beats).ReplyDelete
Kasey's in need of some work, so feel free to give her a call...if you dare. ;-)ReplyDelete
