Colin's Confusion ("Genesis" Continues)

Welcome to another installment of Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday on the blog. Thanks for all the feedback you give on my snippets, but be sure to go visit all of the other writers through the SFFS link above as well.

I'm slowly bringing out snippets from "Genesis," a story that I'd written long ago. So, if you didn't catch the previous snippets, catch the story so far

Well, doesn't that take everything? Here I thought Gabriel was going to be hanging on Azrael's walls like a stuffed bear, but Azrael just took a dive. If there had been money on the match, I'd think he'd taken a dive...but what does Colin think of what happened? Let's find out:
I stared with wide eyes at the fallen beast. What just happened? By all logic, Gabriel should have been a bloody corpse on the floor. Instead, Azrael’s body jerked around like a puppet on strings. Was it some sort of mind-control? Had he injected the beast with a drug? The last thing I wanted to believe was the most obvious answer, it had been the doings of the One Gabriel spoke of.

Azrael’s convulsions ceased and Gabriel gathered loose coins into his satchel. He lifted his face and looked over at me. “I believe we had a deal, Captain?”
Be sure to come back next week for yet another installment. Again, I always enjoy your comments!

  1. I like it. I'm not convinced it was God's will - my bet is on the mind control or else a hidden "guardian angel" (non-supernatural) with a taser or some hi-tech equivalent - but then I always was the type to look for the man behind the curtain...

  3. My vote is out for what is the cause of Azrael's dive. I don't have enough information to even guess and that makes me want to know all the more. How nonchalant Gabriel is makes for great moments with this character. I love reading him.

  4. I'm with JM. Gabriel's being very nonchalant...hmmm, suspect. Good stuff, as always!!

  11. Peter, we may never know (and I can almost guarantee it in this story alone)...but Gabriel's convinced himself, whether by faith or by intentional deception is unknown.

T.M., that's what I always hope out of these snippets. :-)

J.M., Gabriel is one of my favorite characters as well...it does make me wonder if maybe I should be writing his stories instead of Aston's (shhhhh, don't tell! :-P )

T.K., the nonchalant is something that Aston has never been able to perfect. :-)

Chantal and Gayle, glad you enjoyed it!

J.C., I think it's time to form the Initials Club... :-)

Sue Ann, some people are just really stubborn...and I'm guessing that Azrael is going to be one of those. Just a hunch... :-)

  13. Gabriel sounds like a badass! I'd stick my lot in with him, so long as he was cool hanging out with a polytheist. ;)

    Excited to read more!

  14. It's hard to tell with Gabriel...but as long as you didn't get in the way of whatever "mission" he's been sent on, you'd probably be safe. ;-)
