Motivation

Being as how I've been overwhelmed with a complete lack of motivation since finishing edits on my most recent novella, I'll pose a question out to the rest of you for my Saturday Special blog: How do you overcome a lack of motivation?

  1. Go for a run, read a book or watch a movie/show in a similar vein and people watching is surprisingly helpful. Characters appear before your eyes :)

  2. Might have to try all of those if it keeps up...thanks!

  3. I try to work on something else. If there's nothing else, or that doesn't work, I let the writing go. Sometimes the muse won't shut up, and sometimes you have to let it gets its voice back.

  4. Whether it's smart or not, I actually end up avoiding writing (more subconsciously really). In the meantime, I still read fiction and I critique other people's work. Normally after doing that a while, I desire to get back into my own fiction.

  6. All good suggestions...thanks everyone!

I ended up letting my mind vegetate playing a video game, as well as went out for some physical exertion in the garage (close enough to the running Nicole had mentioned)...and today, things have been much improved. Hopefully it keeps up...

  7. I'm suffering from lack of motivation myself. I usually try not to worry about it too much. I'll find my desire again. I think an afternoon at the pool will help, though. It's hot!

  8. It's been near 100 for the past couple of weeks, with the heat index around 110-115. Definitely saps the ol' motivation if you have to get out in that heat, even if you come back in... :-\
